Why Do I Have to Stop Breastfeeding?

Hi 👋

I’m writing this post at 2 pm of 52nd day post delivery of my second baby.

Both deliveries of my babies were induced deliveries. However, the induced deliveries gave me two different experiences of delivering my babies 👶 👶. Both gave me mixed feelings whether to have another pregnancy or not.

My firstborn was very lucky as she was exclusively bre*stfeeded (bf) for two years except in the first week of her life outside the womb. Although there were few episodes of engorgement, there were never ever progressed to the most painful engorgement known as MASTITIS!

Unfortunately, in my second week post delivery of my second LO, I was diagnosed with mastitis. After a whole week of fever and painful mastitis (noted that I was on cloxacilin since day 4 of mastitis) which then still progressed to abscess growing in size each day, I decided to visit a general surgeon at KTS on Sunday morning.

After a brief discussion by the surgeon, and few other processes, we agreed to perform a 7 cm incision and drainage (I&D) next morning. He did mention that I have to take a medicine called dostinex to stop milk production to speed up the healing process.

That evening, around 5 pm, the abscess suddenly became very painful like it was going to explode at anytime. And,,, I decided, to just surrendered to formula milk (fm) when my boy was crying for milk at that time.

The last bf session for my 19 days old LO was at 3 pm, 18th of November.

It was not easy for him to take the fm even though I did already supplemented him few times when I had engorgement on day 3 post delivery as he was unable to latch due to engroge bre*st.

At that time, I used step 1 Karihome formula into a Tupperware brand baby bottle 🍼.

Why Karihome and Tuppperware???

I choose the fm brand simply because I did supplemented my firstborn  LO in her first week after birth due to poor milk supply and cracked nippl*s with Karihome Step 1. She did not show any symptom of allergy or intolerance to that brand.

Tupperware newborn 👶 bottle because,,, urghhh, ermmm, I don’t know, maybe simply because yeaaa, you know that the brand has lifetime warranty, and you can use it, and keep it until you give born to another. Haha 😆
Because I don’t really have experience on baby bottle.

Yea, I did gave my firstborn bottle, but just for a very short time. I used avent natural, and nuk. Avent natural leaks and its teat was hard to me for a newborn. Nuk was perfect due to its soft latex teat.  Both are quite pricey, and I bought the Tupperware 🍼 in my 7 month of pregnancy to my second one just as preparation if I will also has late  milk production like I did for my firstborn. So, why bother to spend much on things that you might just wasted without using it???

That evening, my LO was very cranky. Non stop crying. Hungry and sleepy maybe. Of course, a hungry baby can’t sleep. My husband tried to bottlefeed him. He did not suck the teat. He chewed it few times and cried.

Without hesitation, I asked my husband to buy a nuk bottle with latex teat.

Indeed, he took that bottle straight away.
